Key Responsibilities

Strategy and team leadership

• Contribute to annual business planning, quarterly reviews and assessments of progress against financial and non-financial targets.
• Plan learning, development and capacity-building activities for English and School Education colleagues.
• Develop evidence-based narratives that demonstrate the impact of the education portfolio.
• Mentor and manage the English and School Education team, including direct supervision of designated positions.
• Support wider departmental strategy and ensure compliance with performance management, mandatory training, human resources, and equality, diversity and inclusion procedures.

Programme and content development

• Help country teams design and implement English and school education strategies and projects.
• Embed evidence-informed English teaching and teacher-development principles in project designs, resources and related content.
• Develop teacher-education content strategies and design teacher-development programmes using the British Council’s approaches, resources and standards.
• Advise teams on incorporating education content, including education technology, into suitable delivery models.
• Support monitoring and evaluation plans and review contracts and programmes against agreed targets.
• Escalate delivery concerns and work with relevant teams to develop appropriate responses.

Partnerships and business development

• Build professional relationships with stakeholders in the UK and local education sectors, particularly government partners.
• Identify potential clients and partners, conduct initial research and assess opportunities against the global English and School Education strategy.
• Apply the required due-diligence procedures when considering prospective partners.
• Contribute technical input to proposals, coordinate proposal-development teams where required and work with global colleagues to meet established standards.
• Engage with relevant networks to develop potential business opportunities.

Research, reporting and financial management

• Contribute to research, presentations and publications covering areas such as teaching quality, English in education, girls’ education, education leadership, life skills, crisis and displacement, and foundational learning.
• Support the development and analysis of country and global education data, including sector trends and information about partners and competitors.
• Coordinate reporting through monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks.
• Prepare performance reports covering income, costs, results and portfolio impact.
• Manage income and expenditure accounts for programmes or individual projects and contribute to business-planning activities.

Communications and positioning

• Oversee the production of marketing and communications materials in line with applicable brand standards.
• Help strengthen the British Council’s profile with clients, partners and government stakeholders in English and school education.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must have:

• A postgraduate qualification in a related field, such as education or English language teaching. Examples given by the employer include Diploma ELT and TEFL-Q.
• An English language teaching qualification.
• Experience managing teacher-education projects focused on the English language.
• Experience delivering externally funded projects or programmes.
• Direct experience pursuing client-funded contracts.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including multilateral agencies, donors, government officials and academics.

The following are desirable:

• Experience managing online teacher-education projects.
• A project management qualification or an equivalent credential.
