Job Overview

FairMoney is seeking a Recovery Manager to strategically lead and manage loan recovery operations from its Umuahia, Abia location. The role is responsible for improving the timely recovery of overdue loans, reducing non-performing loan ratios and enforcing credit terms in line with CBN regulations, internal policies and ethical standards.

The position oversees a nationwide or regional team of field recovery officers, supervisors and third-party agents. It combines field strategy, recovery performance management, regulatory compliance, people leadership, stakeholder coordination and process improvement.

FairMoney is building a mobile banking platform and point-of-sale solution for emerging markets. Its services include digital microcredit, current accounts, savings accounts, debit cards and POS solutions for merchants and agents. The company has a diverse workforce representing more than 27 nationalities and focuses on reshaping financial services for underserved communities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute field recovery strategies to reduce Portfolio at Risk.
  • Set field targets, key performance indicators, zonal recovery plans and daily activity expectations for recovery teams.
  • Coordinate borrower visits, skip-tracing, location validation and recovery escalations.
  • Approve restructuring or settlement offers within delegated authority.
  • Track and report field activities using digital tools.
  • Ensure recovery processes follow CBN Consumer Protection Regulations, credit risk guidelines and ethical collection practices.
  • Conduct periodic audits of field actions to prevent misconduct, fraud and undue customer harassment.
  • Recruit, train and supervise field recovery officers, zonal supervisors and contract agents.
  • Work with Credit, Collections, Risk, Legal, Operations and Customer Service teams on holistic case management.
  • Liaise with community leaders, law enforcement and local authorities when required and permitted.
  • Prepare recovery performance reports for senior management.
  • Improve field recovery processes, route planning, customer tracking and reporting structures.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures for field escalations, repossessions and collateral realization.

Requirements and Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field is required. Candidates should have experience in field recovery within the financial lending industry and experience in a senior leadership or field supervisory role.

  • Familiarity with CBN Microfinance Guidelines, debt recovery laws and ethical collection standards.

An MBA or professional certification is an added advantage.
