The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a Nigerian national for the position of Electronics Technician III at its headquarters in Ibadan. The role involves practical electronics and electrical work, solar panel installation, maintenance of basic laboratory equipment, and the setup and operation of sound systems for conferences, functions, and seminars.

This is a three-year renewable contract position. The successful candidate will also maintain work records, support workshop housekeeping, and carry out other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform housekeeping tasks to keep the workshop and tools in proper order.
  • Receive phone calls for seminars.
  • Prepare logs of work completed.
  • Prepare solar panel installations.
  • Assist with oven repairs.
  • Assist in maintaining basic laboratory equipment.
  • Set up sound systems at the Conference Centre and other locations.
  • Coordinate sound systems during functions and seminars.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements and Qualifications

Qualification and Experience

Applicants should have an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Electronics, Trade Test 1 in Electronics Works, or a related field, with at least two years of relevant work experience.

Competencies

  • Good practical knowledge of electronics and electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Practical knowledge of solar photovoltaic installation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to assist with the maintenance and repair of basic laboratory and electronic equipment.
  • Practical skills in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting sound and public-address systems and audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to use electronic test instruments, hand tools, and workshop equipment effectively and safely.
  • Good fault-finding, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate work logs, maintenance records, and basic technical reports.
  • Good knowledge of workshop, electrical, electronics, and equipment safety practices.
  • Good communication, interpersonal, teamwork, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions and procedures, manage multiple tasks, and demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, discipline, and willingness to learn.
