Job Overview

Paystack is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own payment processing across its markets. The role covers the payment methods and channels available to merchants and their customers, the bank, card scheme and processor relationships behind those transactions, and the reliability of the processing stack.

This is a hands-on position requiring strong ownership, sound judgment and effective collaboration across engineering, data, commercial and partner-facing teams. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Product and work with internal teams and external partners to make payment processing broader, faster and more dependable. Candidates based in Lagos, Nigeria are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own the product strategy and roadmap for payment processing, covering channels, partner rails and the reliability of the processing stack.
• Expand and improve the payment methods and channels available to merchants, including cards, bank transfers and direct debit, across Paystack’s markets.
• Drive improvements in transaction success rates and authorisation performance across every supported channel.
• Own product relationships with banks, card schemes, processors and other partner rails, working with them to improve connectivity, performance and coverage.
• Assess and prioritise new partner integrations, and make the case for where Paystack should connect next and why.
• Hold partners accountable for performance and work with them to resolve the issues that cause transactions to fail.
• Own the reliability and uptime of the processing stack and drive the work needed to maintain high performance as volume grows.
• Reduce transaction failures and improve resilience, including retries, failover and the handling of partner downtime.
• Optimise transaction latency and throughput so that processing remains fast and dependable at scale.
• Use transaction data to identify where payments fail, slow down or drop off by channel and partner, and turn those insights into roadmap priorities.
• Define key processing metrics, including success rate, authorisation rate, latency and uptime, and hold the team and partners to them.
• Translate merchant and market needs into clear product requirements for channel and partner work.
• Make trade-off decisions across coverage, performance, cost and reliability.
• Partner with commercial and market teams to support the expansion of payment capabilities into new markets.

Requirements and Qualifications

• At least 6 years of product management experience, with a strong track record of shipping complex, technical products.
• Experience working with external partners such as banks, processors or card schemes, with the ability to hold them to a performance standard.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work directly with transaction data to find and prioritise problems.
• Technical fluency and comfort working closely with engineers on payment-processing systems and performance, resilience and reliability trade-offs.
• Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong project management skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple workstreams, follow through and meet deadlines.
• An action- and results-oriented approach, with good judgment in a fast-paced, high-growth and dynamic environment.
• Sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
