Job Overview

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is seeking a State Coordinator to manage the implementation of I-Youth 2.0 activities at the state level. The coordinator will oversee project delivery, supervise personnel, manage operational resources and coordinate initiatives supporting youth agripreneurs.

This contract position requires a relevant master’s degree and at least five years of experience in programme or project implementation. Candidates must also have completed a minimum of two years in a supervisory or team-leadership role.

About the Organization

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture conducts research for development addressing hunger, malnutrition and poverty in tropical countries. It works with partners on initiatives intended to improve agricultural productivity and crop quality.

Key Responsibilities

The State Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Leading the daily implementation of I-Youth 2.0 activities according to approved workplans, budgets and timelines.
  • Supervising technical officers, field personnel and mobilization staff to support effective project delivery.
  • Coordinating state-level training, enterprise development and incubation activities for youth agripreneurs.
  • Managing the recruitment, selection and progress tracking of programme participants.
  • Coordinating activities across the state’s priority agricultural value chains.
  • Overseeing the state-based Agribusiness Park or incubation hub where applicable.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with state government ministries and agencies, community and traditional institutions, private-sector organizations and financial institutions.
  • Ensuring the accurate collection and reporting of monitoring and evaluation information.
  • Maintaining the state-level network of agripreneurs and alumni trained through the I-Youth programme.
  • Managing the state budget and procurement activities in compliance with IITA policies and donor financial requirements.
  • Preparing narrative and financial reports for submission to the Country Coordinator.
  • Supporting compliance with IITA policies on safeguarding, ethics and related operational matters.
  • Reporting risks and implementation challenges to the Country Coordinator.
  • Representing the project at meetings, events and stakeholder engagements within the assigned state.
  • Performing other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must possess:

  • A master’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in programme or project implementation.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory or team-leadership position.
  • Experience in youth employment, enterprise development, agribusiness, workforce development or agricultural extension, preferably within one or more of the state’s priority value chains.
  • Experience managing project budgets, workplans and donor-funded activities.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging government institutions, community structures and private-sector partners.

Familiarity with the socioeconomic and agricultural environment of the assigned state will be an advantage.
