Role Purpose
The Architecture & Code Review Lead will independently evaluate the programme’s technical architecture, platform configuration and source code. Reviews will cover the middleware integration layer, Android and iOS applications, and the implementation of the licensed digital banking platform.
The position requires the ability to distinguish limitations or standard behaviour of the licensed platform from defects introduced during implementation. It also carries responsibility for reporting findings clearly to both technical teams and non-technical programme stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will:
- Conduct structured architecture and code reviews according to an established weekly or sprint-based schedule.
- Give particular attention to the custom middleware integration layer during technical reviews.
- Evaluate the licensed digital banking platform’s configuration against vendor documentation and applicable industry practices.
- Distinguish behaviour inherent to the banking platform from implementation defects.
- Review Android and iOS application code for structural quality, maintainability and long-term extensibility.
- Assess programme components for functional correctness, technical debt, code quality and adherence to maintainable design practices.
- Configure, administer and maintain static code-analysis tools such as SonarQube, Semgrep or Checkmarx.
- Integrate static-analysis quality gates into the development workflow.
- Identify and formally document risks affecting integration, reliability and maintainability.
- Assign severity ratings to identified risks and provide remediation recommendations.
- Escalate release-blocking findings to programme leadership in writing, allowing sufficient time for remediation before code freeze.
- Produce technical review reports and status updates suitable for delivery teams and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- At least eight years of professional experience in software engineering or software architecture.
- At least four years in a dedicated code review, architecture review, technical assurance or quality engineering role.
- Experience integrating a licensed or third-party software platform with an existing enterprise or banking environment.
- Experience with integrations involving core banking systems, enterprise resource planning platforms or comparable systems of record.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing or working with microservices, containerized systems and event-driven architectures.
- Experience reviewing Android and/or iOS mobile application codebases.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related discipline.
Equivalent demonstrated professional experience may be accepted in place of the stated academic qualification.
Required Technical Skills
Candidates should have knowledge and practical experience in the following areas:
- Static and automated code-analysis tools such as SonarQube, Semgrep, Checkmarx or equivalent solutions.
- Configuration and governance of automated quality gates.
- API and middleware integration patterns, including REST, SOAP, message queues and event-driven integration.
- Cloud-native and containerized deployment models.
- Kubernetes, Docker and microservices architectures.
- At least one licensed core or digital banking platform, such as Finacle, Flexcube, T24, Mambu, Temenos or an equivalent platform.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications and experience are preferred but are not stated as mandatory:
- Previous involvement in mobile banking, payment systems or financial-services integration projects.
- Working knowledge of payment switches and card-network integrations.
- Familiarity with NIBSS, SWIFT or equivalent national and international payment rails.
- Sufficient application-security awareness to identify concerns and refer them to a dedicated security review function.
- Formal certification in software architecture, quality assurance or a recognized code-review or quality methodology.
Core Competencies
The role requires:
- The ability to form, document and defend an independent technical judgment.
- The confidence to recommend delaying a release when supported by documented technical evidence.
- Clear and structured written and verbal communication.
- The ability to explain technical risks to non-technical stakeholders.
- An independent and self-directed working style suited to a remote, deadline-based engagement.
- Sound judgment when separating platform limitations from implementation defects.
Engagement Success Criteria
Performance in the role will be assessed against the following stated outcomes:
- Complete reviews of the platform configuration, mobile application and middleware integration layer according to the agreed weekly or sprint schedule.
- Document and escalate all critical and high-severity findings before the programme’s code freeze on 15 October 2026.
- Make the static code-analysis tooling operational and integrate it into the development workflow within the first two weeks of the engagement.
- Deliver the final review and sign-off report to programme leadership before the planned go-live date of 1 November 2026.
