AMCE Abuja will provide services in oncology, haematology, cardiovascular care and general healthcare, with plans for expansion across the continent. Responsibilities

• Provide advanced assessment, diagnosis and management of acute medical and surgical emergencies.
• Oversee the stabilisation and resuscitation of critically ill patients.
• Perform emergency procedures, including intubation, central line placement and chest tube insertion.
• Ensure timely transfer or admission of patients requiring further specialised care.
• Lead the emergency team during shifts and oversee patient care and workload distribution.
• Develop and implement clinical pathways and protocols for emergency care.
• Manage departmental operations, including resource allocation and staffing.
• Participate in hospital-wide committees relating to emergency services and patient safety.
• Supervise and mentor junior doctors, medical students and nursing staff.
• Organise and deliver training on emergency procedures and protocols.
• Support staff development through regular appraisals and feedback.
• Monitor and evaluate clinical outcomes, participate in audits and incident reviews, and support patient safety initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and maintain effective communication with patients, families and healthcare providers.
• Liaise with ambulance services, emergency medical services and referral centres.
• Promote and participate in emergency medicine research, including publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at professional conferences.
• Lead Equality and Diversity work within the department, including the development and implementation of related strategies, policies, procedures and monitoring systems.
• Work with Human Resources on staff recruitment, retention, performance management and development.
• Work with the Recruitment Manager to build connections with local, international and online communities to support the growth of the organisation.
• Develop high-potential employees through structured mentoring and talent development.
• Contribute to strategic planning and the development of emergency services.
• Monitor and manage departmental budgets and resources.
• Represent the department in hospital-wide committees and forums.

Reporting and Working Relationships

• Report directly to the Head of Emergency Medicine.
• Provide feedback to the Medical Director on departmental operations.
• Supervise junior doctors, residents and trainees in the Emergency Department.
• Collaborate with the Chief Nursing Officer on patient care strategies.
• Coordinate with the Quality Assurance Manager on clinical audits.
• Work with the Hospital Administrator on resource management.
• Collaborate with critical care, radiology, surgical and nursing teams to support comprehensive patient management.
• Engage administrative staff to support operational efficiency.

Requirements and Qualifications

• MBBS or an equivalent medical degree.
• Fellowship in Emergency Medicine, such as FCEM, FRCEM or an equivalent qualification.
• Valid medical licence to practise in Nigeria.
• Advanced Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support certifications.
• Postgraduate qualification in critical care or pre-hospital medicine.
• Certification in ultrasound-guided procedures.
• At least five years of post-specialisation experience in emergency medicine.
• Proven expertise in managing complex and high-acuity cases.
• Experience working in resource-limited settings.
• Research experience with publications in emergency medicine journals.
