The successful candidate will oversee maintenance strategy, plant equipment performance, preventive and predictive maintenance, safety, cost control, maintenance systems and the development of plant maintenance personnel.

Dangote Industries Limited is recruiting this senior mechanical leadership position for its Lagos head office. The role focuses on the maintenance, reliability and safe operation of mechanical equipment used in cement manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a maintenance strategy to accomplish the overall objectives of the organisation.
  • Participate in objective setting, plan development and performance review of plant performance.
  • Initiate, implement and manage the plant maintenance programme based on best practices in the cement industry, with emphasis on planning and scheduling and preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Ensure that maintenance engineers and technicians are adequately trained, equipped and motivated to accomplish the maintenance programme safely, on time and cost-effectively.
  • Continuously review the operation of plant equipment and systems to minimise unplanned downtime, solve problems promptly and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee the maintenance of existing plant facilities and equipment, including replacement and adjustments where necessary.
  • Ensure cost-effective control systems for capital expenditure, operating expenditure and manpower, and initiate projects that improve efficiency or reduce operating costs.
  • Track, analyse and improve key maintenance parameters, including asset utilisation, maintenance cost and schedule compliance.
  • Direct, maintain and enforce the maintenance department’s safety programme, and review safety records to uphold maximum safety standards for maintenance engineers and technicians.
  • Coordinate with the operations department on maintenance and repair work in process areas.
  • Establish and maintain a computerised maintenance management system for tracking work orders, spare parts and plant equipment maintenance history.
  • Enforce plant standards and safe work procedures, and ensure that regulations relating to the mechanical maintenance department are met at all times.
  • Provide training, development and leadership to plant maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain and update operating and training manuals for the mechanical department.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Deputy Plant Director (Operations & Maintenance).

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of twenty-seven (27) years’ experience in repairs and maintenance of cement manufacturing equipment.
  • In-depth knowledge of cement plant maintenance and the cement manufacturing process.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Leadership ability and strong management skills.
  • Good data gathering and analysis skills.
  • Baseline problem analysis and solving skills.
  • Creativity and an ability to think out of the box.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office.
