Job Overview

The Head, Mines Operation will lead and manage large-scale mining activities at the Obajana Plant. The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective extraction of raw materials while meeting production targets, quality requirements and regulatory standards.

The successful candidate will provide operational leadership across mining activities, develop mine plans, maintain the supply of raw materials to plant operations and drive performance improvement across the mining function.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all mining operations.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term mine plans to achieve production objectives.
  • Ensure a continuous supply of raw materials to meet plant production requirements while maintaining required quality standards.
  • Coordinate drilling, blasting, excavation, haulage and material-handling operations.
  • Monitor mining performance against approved budgets, production targets and operational KPIs.
  • Optimise equipment utilisation and operational efficiency to maximise productivity and cost effectiveness.
  • Lead, mentor and develop multidisciplinary teams of engineers, supervisors, technicians, operators and contractors.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety, health, environmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions to improve mine performance.
  • Collaborate with technical, maintenance, production and management teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Prepare and present operational, performance and production reports to executive management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and best practices across mining operations.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Production Engineering or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of 25 years’ progressive experience in mining operations.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale open-pit mining operations.
  • Demonstrated success in mine planning, production management and operational leadership.
