Job Overview

The Accountant – Financial Operations, Financial Reporting will support the implementation of MTN Nigeria accounting policies across the organization in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Reporting to the Manager – Financial Reporting within the Finance Division, the role covers technical accounting, statutory reporting, audit coordination, regulatory monitoring and financial operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in analysing, developing and managing the implementation of MTN Nigeria accounting policies across the organization in accordance with IFRS.
• Maintain and update financial policies and procedures across the company in accordance with Group Policy and IFRS.
• Review Product Content Documents and draft contracts in line with IFRS and Group accounting policies, highlighting the accounting implications of proposed propositions.
• Assess the impact of new and amended accounting standards and organize knowledge-sharing sessions for concerned business units.
• Collaborate with the financial operations team to produce statutory reports, including interim and annual reports.
• Conduct technical research on complex commercial transactions and provide accounting consultation and advice.
• Participate actively in month-end close activities.
• Liaise with external and internal auditors to support smooth audit processes.
• Participate in regular internal and external workshops and training on accounting issues and practices.
• Handle complex and unusual accounting issues and transactions under IFRS, providing expert guidance on non-standard transactions.
• Drive the preparation and submission of financial statements, ensuring that they meet statutory requirements and comply with international accounting standards.
• Monitor changes in regulatory frameworks to support organizational compliance and advise on necessary adjustments.
• Plan and coordinate internal and external audit reviews, ensuring that audit activities are completed on time and audit findings are addressed and resolved promptly.
• Act as an interface between finance, operations, external auditors and regulatory bodies, facilitating transparent communication and consistent, accurate data flow.
• Provide financial insights and trend analysis to support strategic initiatives, and assist with forecasting and budgeting processes aligned with business goals and growth plans.
• Develop and recommend best practices to refine reporting processes and maintain high standards.

Requirements and Qualifications

• First degree in Accounting or a related subject.
• Professional accounting qualification such as ICAN or ACCA.
• Fluency in English.
• Three to seven years of experience in an area of specialization, including experience working with others.
• Experience working in a medium-sized organization.
• Experience handling complex IFRS accounting standard issues at an internationally affiliated audit firm.
• Experience in financial management or audit.
• Experience with process reengineering projects.
