Job Overview

The Information Technology Officer will be based in Yola, Adamawa State, providing onsite and remote ICT support to the Yola office, Yobe field locations and programme teams across Plan International Nigeria. The role works with the Country Office ICT team, programme teams and service providers to maintain reliable, secure and effective ICT infrastructure, connectivity, systems and end-user services, while supporting country-level ICT initiatives and alignment with organisational standards and programme requirements.

Responsibilities

ICT Infrastructure, Connectivity and Power Resilience

  • Administer, monitor, maintain, configure and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points and other network infrastructure at the Yola office and assigned field locations.
  • Support fibre, radio, VSAT, Starlink, satellite and wireless connectivity; telecommunications and emergency communications including satellite phones, BGAN and radio systems.
  • Support CCTV/IP surveillance systems, NVRs, cameras, UPS units, inverters, batteries, solar systems and other ICT power-resilience solutions.
  • Monitor availability, performance and capacity; perform preventive maintenance, coordinate corrective maintenance and escalate major or recurring issues.

Microsoft 365, Systems and End-User Technology

  • Support Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, Active Directory and identity and access management.
  • Support onboarding, access changes and offboarding; deploy and manage laptops, desktops, mobile devices, printers and other ICT equipment.
  • Configure, patch, encrypt and protect devices; diagnose hardware, software, operating-system, printing and peripheral issues; coordinate repairs, warranties and replacements.

Service Management and User Support

  • Resolve incidents and service requests within agreed SLAs and OLAs through onsite, remote and appropriate support channels.
  • Maintain service-management records, identify recurring problems, recommend sustainable solutions and escalate complex or major incidents to the IT Coordinator, Regional/Global IT teams or approved providers.
  • Provide timely technical assistance with a strong customer-service approach.

Cybersecurity and Data Protection

  • Implement information-security controls, endpoint protection, antivirus/EDR, encryption, patch management, vulnerability remediation, MFA and access controls.
  • Guide users on protecting information, devices and networks against malware, unauthorised access, data loss and physical damage.
  • Identify, report and escalate cybersecurity incidents, promote secure technology practices and support data-protection, privacy and information-security compliance.

Programme Operations, Assets and Vendors

  • Understand programme and operations requirements and provide technical solutions for activities, trainings, workshops, deployments, new project locations and office setups.
  • Support requirements gathering, testing, user acceptance testing, implementation, rollout and post-implementation support, ensuring compliance with architecture, cybersecurity and data-protection requirements.
  • Recommend technology, automation and digitalisation opportunities; maintain asset records and support asset deployment, transfer, repair, replacement and disposal.
  • Support licences, warranties, maintenance agreements, support contracts, procurement, vendor evaluation and service monitoring, and ensure essential supplies are available.

Continuity, Documentation and Compliance

  • Perform and monitor backups for critical applications, systems, network configurations and ICT resources, including network-device configurations and infrastructure documentation.
  • Participate in business-continuity and disaster-recovery planning, testing and implementation; restore services during outages, failures, emergencies and other disruptions.
  • Maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, configurations, procedures, asset records, user guides, standard operating procedures and knowledge-base materials.
  • Support ICT induction, awareness and end-user training, provide basic administration training to designated field staff, share knowledge with Country Office, Regional and Global IT teams, and support continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate standards, architecture, policies, procedures and service standards; monitor service quality and availability, follow documentation and escalation controls, manage IT supplies, gather user requirements, assist with reports and perform other assigned ICT duties.

Safeguarding and Collaboration

  • Promote a safe, respectful and supportive environment for children and programme participants; comply with safeguarding and PSHEA policies and the Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
  • Report and respond to safeguarding concerns and breaches, and develop knowledge of safeguarding and PSHEA standards, including Delivering Safe IT and Digital Safeguarding.
  • Work collaboratively with Plan International Nigeria colleagues, report to the IT Coordinator and operate under matrix management of the ZARCH Project Coordinator.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field.
  • Completion of NYSC is compulsory.
  • Minimum of four years’ relevant experience in ICT, IT infrastructure, networking, systems administration or user support.
  • Practical Cisco Meraki experience, including switches, wireless access points, security appliances and the Meraki Dashboard.
  • Experience with LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, routers, switches, firewalls, Microsoft 365, Entra ID/Azure AD, Active Directory, Windows, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, cloud services and ICT equipment.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, access control, MFA, endpoint security and data protection, with strong troubleshooting, communication, customer-service and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to support users onsite, remotely and by telephone; manage priorities and urgent incidents; communicate with technical and non-technical users; work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment; and demonstrate accountability, adaptability and commitment to continuous learning.
