Job Overview

Sharperly Limited is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Officer with practical experience in foreign exchange operations, tax compliance, financial reporting, and core finance activities.

This is a full-time remote opportunity in Nigeria for a finance professional who understands the demands of a fintech environment and can effectively manage financial transactions while maintaining strong internal controls and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will be involved in foreign exchange transactions, cash-flow management, banking relationships, tax filings, budgeting, financial reporting, and audit support. The position also requires close attention to currency exposure and the financial risks associated with international payments and receipts.

Candidates should have at least 2–3 years of relevant experience, including demonstrated exposure to FX trading and tax compliance within the fintech industry.

About Sharperly Limited

Sharperly Limited operates in the financial technology and cross-border payments space. The company focuses on making international money transfers simpler and helping people send financial support across borders.

Its services are built around global and instant payment solutions designed to reduce the difficulties traditionally associated with transferring money internationally.

Given the nature of its cross-border payment operations, effective financial management, foreign exchange oversight, regulatory compliance, and accurate transaction reporting are important parts of the company’s operations.

Key Responsibilities

Foreign Exchange Operations

The Finance Officer will support and oversee foreign exchange activities and help the company manage its exposure to currency movements. Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee daily foreign exchange trading activities, including currency exchange, risk analysis, and trade execution.
  • Monitor exchange-rate movements and identify trends that may influence financial decisions.
  • Work with financial institutions and FX trading partners to facilitate cost-effective currency transactions.
  • Develop and implement appropriate FX hedging strategies to reduce currency risk.
  • Track international payments and receipts to support effective currency conversion decisions.
  • Maintain an up-to-date view of the company’s FX exposure.
  • Prepare regular FX exposure reports for management.

Finance and Accounting Operations

The role also covers the company’s broader financial operations. The successful candidate will:

  • Manage cash flow and support effective liquidity planning.
  • Maintain relationships with banks and other relevant financial institutions.
  • Process and reconcile financial transactions.
  • Maintain complete and accurate financial records.
  • Prepare and review financial reports, forecasts, and budgets.
  • Ensure finance activities comply with applicable regulations, internal policies, and audit requirements.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation during internal and external audits.
  • Assist with the evaluation of investment opportunities.
  • Conduct financial feasibility analyses when required.

Tax Compliance

Tax compliance is another important component of this position.

The Finance Officer will oversee the preparation and submission of relevant statutory tax filings, including VAT, PAYE, and WHT, within the required deadlines.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Ensure tax filings are properly prepared and submitted on time.
  • Liaise with relevant tax authorities when necessary.
  • Work with external tax consultants to address tax-related matters.
  • Monitor relevant changes in tax legislation.
  • Support the implementation of changes necessary to maintain compliance.

Requirements and Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another relevant discipline.

Applicants should also have:

  • At least 2–3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Previous work experience within the fintech industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in FX trading.
  • Practical knowledge of tax compliance.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets and financial instruments.
  • Knowledge of financial and currency risk management.
  • Proficiency with financial software and reporting tools.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Sound decision-making skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A high level of professional integrity.

Professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, or CFA are considered an added advantage rather than a mandatory requirement.

Who May Be a Good Fit?

This opportunity may suit a finance professional who has already worked in fintech and understands the financial complexities associated with payments and foreign exchange.

The position requires someone who can work confidently with financial data while remaining attentive to compliance requirements, transaction accuracy, and financial risk.

Because the position is remote, candidates should also be comfortable managing responsibilities independently while maintaining effective communication with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

Experience dealing with financial institutions, foreign exchange partners, auditors, tax authorities, and external consultants would be relevant to several responsibilities associated with the role.
