Role Purpose
The Finance Specialist – Inventory will oversee financial activities connected with stock held across the company’s supply chain. This includes maintaining reliable inventory records, reconciling physical stock with financial systems and ensuring that inventory transactions are recorded according to company controls and accounting requirements.
The role will also analyse stock movements, aging, losses and adjustments. Findings from this analysis will be used to identify financial risks, support inventory optimization and contribute to working-capital improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile physical stock balances with the company’s financial systems.
- Monitor and analyse inventory movements, stock aging and inventory variances.
- Identify risks and potential improvement opportunities arising from inventory data.
- Work with supply-chain and operations teams to review stock levels, inventory turnover and obsolescence.
- Prepare inventory reports for relevant stakeholders.
- Support monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing activities.
- Assist with inventory valuation and the preparation of related journal entries.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of stock adjustments, inventory write-offs and recorded losses.
- Ensure that inventory activities comply with company policies, internal controls and audit requirements.
- Support the development and implementation of inventory-management policies and procedures.
- Assist with the planning, execution and analysis of physical inventory counts and cycle counts.
- Provide inventory insights that contribute to working-capital improvement and stock optimization.
- Respond to inventory-related questions and documentation requests during internal and external audits.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have:
- A BSc in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
- At least three years of relevant experience in finance, inventory control or supply-chain finance.
- Relevant experience gained within an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of inventory-accounting principles.
- Understanding of standard costing, first-in, first-out and weighted-average inventory methods.
- Experience using an enterprise resource planning system.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
