Job Overview

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture is recruiting a State Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day implementation of I-Youth 2.0 activities at the state level. The position involves coordinating programme activities, supervising project personnel, managing budgets and procurement, supporting youth agripreneurs, and maintaining relationships with government, community and private-sector stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The State Coordinator will:

  • Lead the daily implementation of I-Youth 2.0 activities in line with approved workplans, budgets and timelines.
  • Supervise technical officers, field personnel and mobilization staff while monitoring performance and the quality of programme delivery.
  • Coordinate state-level training, enterprise development and incubation activities for youth agripreneurs.
  • Manage the recruitment, selection and progress monitoring of programme participants.
  • Coordinate activities involving the state’s priority agricultural value chains.
  • Oversee the state-based Agribusiness Park or incubation hub where applicable.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with state government ministries and agencies, traditional and community institutions, financial institutions and private-sector organizations.
  • Ensure that monitoring and evaluation information is collected accurately and reported appropriately.
  • Maintain the state-level network of agripreneurs and alumni trained through I-Youth.
  • Manage the state budget and procurement activities in accordance with IITA policies and donor financial requirements.
  • Prepare state-level narrative and financial reports for submission to the Country Coordinator.
  • Ensure compliance with IITA policies covering safeguarding, ethics and related operational matters.
  • Escalate identified risks and implementation challenges to the Country Coordinator.
  • Represent the project at relevant meetings, events and stakeholder engagements within the assigned state.
  • Carry out other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must have:

  • A master’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, Development Studies, Economics, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
  • At least five years of relevant experience in programme or project implementation.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory or team-leadership role.
  • Experience in youth employment, enterprise development, agribusiness, workforce development or agricultural extension, preferably involving one or more priority value chains.
  • Experience managing project budgets, workplans and donor-funded activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with state government institutions, community structures and private-sector partners.

Familiarity with the socioeconomic and agricultural environment of the assigned state will be an advantage.
