Head, Product Control & Accounting
Moniepoint
Africa's all-in-one financial ecosystem
Job Overview
The Head, Product Control & Accounting sits between Finance and the Product and Technology platform team, ensuring that every new product, feature and pricing change is correctly designed from an accounting and control standpoint before it ships.
The role owns the process from customer journey to financial reporting: how a product event is captured, mapped to the chart of accounts and reflected in the Group’s financial statements. It combines technical accounting, product design review, general ledger structure, reconciliation and control design.

About the Organization
Moniepoint describes itself as Africa’s all-in-one financial ecosystem, empowering businesses and their customers with payment, banking, credit and management tools. In 2023, the company processed $182 billion and identified itself as Nigeria’s largest merchant acquirer.
Moniepoint highlights a culture of innovation, teamwork and growth.
Responsibilities
- Act as the standing technical accounting partner to Product and Engineering for all new products, features and pricing changes.
- Write technical accounting memos and position papers for new or changed products, including revenue recognition under IFRS 15, financial instrument classification under IFRS 9, and fee versus interest income treatment.
- Design, build and maintain the chart of accounts for new and existing products, ensuring consistency across entities.
- Map each stage of the customer journey, including onboarding, transaction, settlement, fee, reversal and write-off, to the correct general ledger treatment from end to end.
- Review product and engineering specifications before launch to identify accounting and control gaps before they reach production.
- Own the reconciliation between product or transaction system data and the general ledger, resolving breaks at source.
- Design controls around new product flows, including maker-checker controls, reconciliation and exception handling, and document them to audit standard.
- Maintain a living library of accounting treatment documentation for each product, keeping it current as products evolve.
- Partner with Financial Control, Internal Audit and external auditors on product-related technical accounting queries.
About You
- You can sit in a product specification review and identify where the accounting will break, raising the issue before launch rather than after.
- You translate fluently between accountants and engineers without oversimplifying either side.
- You default to documenting accounting treatment properly rather than leaving it as tribal knowledge.
- You are comfortable owning a chart of accounts as a living system rather than a static reference document.
- You care as much about control design as the accounting answer, recognising that a technically correct treatment is not sufficient without appropriate controls.
What Success Looks Like
- No product ships without a documented, signed-off accounting treatment and general ledger mapping.
- The chart of accounts remains clean and consistent as new products launch, with no post-hoc reclassification projects.
- Product and transaction data reconcile to the general ledger within agreed tolerances, with breaks resolved at source rather than papered over monthly.
- Audit findings related to product accounting or control design trend toward zero.
- Product and Engineering see Finance as a design partner rather than a late-stage blocker.
Requirements and Qualifications
- ACA, ACCA or an equivalent qualification.
- At least 8 years of post-qualification experience, including a Big Four technical accounting or audit background.
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS 15, IFRS 9 and IFRS more broadly.
- Experience translating a product or system design into accounting treatment and general ledger structure, rather than reviewing it only after the fact.
- Comfort reading product specifications and working directly with engineers and product managers, in addition to finance colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in payments, fintech or banking, ideally with exposure to how transaction or ledger systems are built.
- Prior experience designing or restructuring a chart of accounts for a multi-product platform.
- Exposure to regulatory reporting requirements connected to product design, including CBN, FCA, CBK or equivalent requirements.
- Experience working inside or alongside an agile product or engineering team.
Recruitment Process
- A preliminary phone call with one of Moniepoint’s recruiters.
- Hiring Manager interview.
- A panel interview with existing Finance Leads.
- A behavioural and technical interview with a member of the Executive team.
