Key Responsibilities
Operational Risk Management
The Risk Management Officer will establish and maintain processes for identifying, measuring and reporting operational risks across the organisation. Responsibilities will include:
- Developing proactive processes for gathering operational-loss event data and key risk indicators.
- Monitoring key risk indicators regularly across the organisation.
- Analysing operational risks and preparing risk-management reports when required.
- Establishing operational limits that help monitor, constrain and avoid risk exposure.
- Developing procedures for collecting and analysing loss-event data.
- Analysing loss data to support informed decision-making.
- Promoting operational-risk awareness throughout the organisation.
- Supervising risk and control self-assessments conducted by process owners and support functions.
Business Continuity and Recovery
The role will contribute to business-continuity planning by:
- Analysing, designing and developing recovery strategies for critical business functions.
- Identifying short-, medium- and long-term continuity and recovery strategies for critical business processes.
- Conducting annual reviews of the organisation’s critical business processes.
- Designing service-level agreements for outsourced activities.
Leadership of the Risk Management Unit
The officer will provide direction for the enterprise-risk management function and support senior leadership by:
- Assisting the Board of Directors, Board-appointed committees and Managing Director in carrying out their overall risk-management responsibilities.
- Providing leadership based on acceptable enterprise-risk management standards and principles.
- Preparing, monitoring and evaluating the unit’s budget allocation and ongoing costs.
- Developing short- and long-term risk-management plans aligned with organisational goals.
Risk Policies and Procedures
The successful candidate will help maintain an effective policy environment by:
- Developing and recommending risk-management policies and operating procedures.
- Reviewing the organisation’s risk charter, policies, procedures, methodologies, frameworks and tools for continued relevance.
- Recommending and incorporating necessary amendments.
- Obtaining approval for revised drafts from the Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer and Board Audit and Risk Committee.
Enterprise Risk Management
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Board Audit and Risk Committee in defining the organisation’s risk appetite.
- Developing and implementing an enterprise-wide risk-management strategy.
- Establishing an integrated framework for measuring and managing the risks facing the organisation.
- Incorporating risk considerations into strategic decision-making.
- Ensuring that line-management strategies align with the organisation’s risk policies.
- Supporting efficient portfolio diversification and risk-transfer strategies in line with the organisation’s risk-and-return profile.
- Evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of controls within organisational products and processes.
- Recommending changes to controls when necessary and helping management strengthen its risk-management capabilities.
- Promoting an organisational culture of risk awareness through communication, training, development and lessons from previous challenges.
- Reporting significant risk matters regularly to the Board and executive management.
- Recommending risk-performance indicators for inclusion in performance-management and reward structures.
Regulatory and External Relations
The Risk Management Officer will also:
- Represent the organisation at industry forums dealing with risk and compliance matters.
- Serve as a contact between the organisation and regulators on risk-management and compliance issues.
- Help shareholders, regulators and rating agencies understand the organisation’s enterprise-risk management programme.
- Liaise with external auditors and other assurance providers when required.
Qualifications and Experience

- Relevant academic qualifications.
- Five to ten years of relevant experience.
