Job Overview
The Child Health and Immunization Officer will support the delivery of high-quality child health and immunization programmes in Lagos. The role provides technical support for programme development, implementation, evaluation, learning and reporting, while also contributing to capacity building, stakeholder engagement, advocacy and safeguarding.
The successful candidate will support the Child Health Specialist in maintaining high standards across the project team and Save the Children International programmes in the assigned state.

Responsibilities
Programme Quality
- Provide technical expertise to ensure programmes are high quality and comply with country and Save the Children International standards.
- Contribute to identifying expertise gaps and support the mobilisation of technical assistance from technical advisers based in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, as well as external consultants when required.
- Support the development of high-quality programming, annual plans and programme budgets when necessary.
- Contribute to the development of key programme questions to advance the evidence base and lead the design of targeted evaluations.
- Support the Child Health and Immunization Specialist in coordinating operational and analytical research, publication and dissemination of results.
- Contribute to learning, evaluation, documentation and dissemination of programme lessons to improve performance and outcomes.
- Contribute to the preparation of quality quarterly and annual reports and the timely submission of deliverables.
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Child Health and Immunization Specialist.
Capacity Building
- Build the capacity of health facility workers to implement quality programmes.
Representation, Advocacy and Organisational Learning
- Represent the programme at stakeholder forums at local government area and community levels.
- Develop partnerships with relevant community-based organisations, traditional and religious leaders, development groups and other social groups at local government area and community levels.
- Support adequate community involvement and participation in project activities.
- Work with the Advocacy team to assist with advocacy activities targeting decision-makers at all levels.
- Ensure that learning, experiences and evidence from the research component are documented and presented to appropriate forums, particularly at local government area and community levels.
Safeguarding
- Support the safeguarding team with safeguarding risk assessments and the development of mitigation plans when required.
- Flag safeguarding concerns identified during programme implementation and share good practices observed in the field.
- Ensure that children and programme beneficiaries receive ongoing, age-appropriate verbal or written information in relevant languages about Save the Children’s Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the Child Health Specialist in ensuring that the project team and Save the Children International programmes in the assigned state are implemented to the highest standards and with safe programming.
- Carry out additional reasonable duties within the scope of the role holder’s skills and experience.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in medicine, health, public health or a related field, or qualification as a registered nurse or midwife.
- At least three years of experience implementing and delivering technical assistance to maternal, newborn and child health programmes in developing-country settings.
- Expertise in child survival programme development and management.
- Strong experience in immunization service delivery, programme design and implementation.
- Experience facilitating training and supportive supervision.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
