Role Within the Delta Sales Network

The representative will serve as a link between MTN and businesses participating in its distribution network. These may include authorised distributors, sub-dealers, dealer branches and retailers operating within the assigned territory.

The work combines retail support, outlet monitoring, product availability checks, merchandising, promotion support and market reporting. It therefore requires regular movement between outlets rather than working exclusively from an office.

A major purpose of the role is to ensure that MTN products remain available and visible at retail level while maintaining effective working relationships between the different participants in the distribution channel.

Daily Field and Retail Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Contact sub-dealers and dealer branches to verify stock receipts and product movement.
  • Visit retail outlets according to the assigned field-call schedule.
  • Explain MTN products, services and current promotions to outlet personnel.
  • Provide practical, on-the-spot coaching to staff at outlets visited.
  • Support trade events, promotions and related field activities.
  • Prepare sub-dealer promotion specifications where required.
  • Participate in post-promotion evaluations.
  • Monitor product availability at outlets covered during field visits.
  • Identify and classify businesses participating in MTN’s distribution network.
  • Maintain accurate and regularly updated information about channel participants.
  • Promote the channel and branding standards established by MTN.
  • Support the distribution of signage and point-of-sale materials.
  • Assist with appropriate merchandising at identified outlets.
  • Help authorised distributors, sub-dealers and retailers maintain productive working relationships.
  • Respond to questions concerning product activations, services and promotions.
  • Monitor network-quality issues and other conditions that may affect sales.
  • Collect relevant market information and provide feedback to management.

Reporting Responsibilities

The role includes regular reporting rather than field visits alone. The representative will be expected to prepare or contribute to:

  • Weekly and monthly sales-activity reports.
  • Market-intelligence reports.
  • Product-availability reports covering outlets visited.
  • Regular database updates for identified distribution-channel participants.
  • Reports on network quality and other factors affecting sales.
  • Evaluations completed after trade promotions and events.

Applicants should therefore be able to collect accurate field information and present it in an organised form.

How Performance Is Measured

The official vacancy includes several measurable expectations:

  • Completing approximately eight to ten outlet visits per day, or another number determined by business requirements.
  • Providing product or promotion guidance at all outlets visited during the assigned call cycle.
  • Helping maintain MTN product availability above 95% within the distribution channel.
  • Supporting appropriate merchandising at all identified outlets.
  • Supporting signage and point-of-sale distribution, with a target of 65% visibility across the channel.

These targets indicate that the position is likely to be evaluated using outlet coverage, product availability, retail visibility, merchandising and reporting consistency.

Education and Experience

Applicants should have:

  • A first degree, preferably in Social Sciences.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Between one and three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working collaboratively with other people.
  • Previous experience within a medium-sized organisation.
  • Sales and marketing experience in a fast-moving consumer goods environment.

What Applicants Should Demonstrate

A suitable application should clearly show evidence relevant to field sales and retail distribution. Applicants may highlight:

  • Sales territories, districts or routes they previously covered.
  • Retail outlets, distributors or trade partners they supported.
  • Experience monitoring stock or product availability.
  • Promotions, merchandising activities or trade events they helped implement.
  • Instances where they explained products or promotions to retail personnel.
  • Sales, activity, stock or market reports they prepared.
  • Problems involving products, activations or promotions that they helped resolve.
  • Measurable improvements in sales, outlet coverage, product availability or brand visibility.

Applicants should use accurate examples that they can explain and support during an interview.

Important Considerations Before Applying

This is an on-site, field-oriented role. Candidates should consider whether they are comfortable:

  • Travelling regularly between retail outlets in the assigned territory.
  • Communicating with retailers, sub-dealers and authorised distributors.
  • Working towards measurable product-availability and visibility targets.
  • Collecting and reporting sales and market information.
  • Handling questions involving activations, products and promotions.
  • Combining independent fieldwork with collaboration across the distribution channel.
