Key Responsibilities

Survey control and site setting-out

  • Establish, maintain and verify primary survey control networks, benchmarks and reference points.
  • Conduct setting-out work for buildings, foundations, structural grids, roads, drainage systems, utilities and other civil infrastructure.
  • Establish and confirm horizontal and vertical alignments, site levels and datums using approved drawings and project specifications.
  • Ensure survey references remain accurate and suitable for use throughout project execution.

Construction surveying and quality verification

  • Conduct structural setting-out, level checks, alignment verification and dimensional control during construction.
  • Complete pre-construction, topographical, verification and as-built surveys.
  • Provide survey information needed for earthworks, construction-progress monitoring and quality-control activities.
  • Prepare tolerance checks, survey reports and as-built documentation.
  • Confirm whether completed work aligns with applicable design information and construction standards.

Survey data and reporting

  • Process, analyse and manage survey information using suitable surveying, CAD, GIS and engineering software.
  • Calculate excavation quantities, cut-and-fill measurements and earthwork volumes.
  • Provide measurement information that supports project cost and progress monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate coordinate databases, survey records, setting-out logs and other technical documents.

Technical coordination and field supervision

  • Work with project managers, architects, engineers, consultants and construction teams to resolve surveying issues.
  • Coordinate survey activities with relevant design and construction information.
  • Provide technical direction to assistant surveyors and other members of the survey team.
  • Monitor the accuracy, productivity and compliance of assigned surveying activities.
  • Ensure survey work complies with project specifications, health and safety requirements, and recognized professional standards.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related engineering, construction or built-environment discipline.
  • Between four and six years of relevant engineering surveying experience.
  • Practical experience in construction setting-out, site-control establishment, structural alignment, levelling and as-built surveying.
  • Experience gained in building construction, residential developments, commercial projects or infrastructure works.

Experience working on large developments involving buildings, roads, drainage systems, utilities and earthworks is highly desirable.

Professional registration or membership with a recognized surveying institution or professional body is an added advantage. Previous responsibility for supervising survey teams or coordinating surveying activities across several project locations will also be considered an advantage.

Required Skills

Working Conditions

This is primarily a site-based position that may involve periodic travel between project locations. The Survey Engineer will regularly interact with contractors, consultants, clients, suppliers and regulatory authorities.

The successful candidate may be required to work extended hours or weekends when necessary to meet project milestones and operational requirements. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn, and all applicable health, safety, environment and quality procedures must be followed.
