Sigma Consult is recruiting a Head of Commercial on behalf of a rapidly growing FinTech and financial services company. The role is responsible for shaping commercial strategy, growing revenue, winning enterprise customers and developing strategic partnerships.

This is a senior leadership position for an experienced commercial professional who understands B2B enterprise sales and can turn market opportunities into measurable business growth. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO and executive leadership team while leading the wider commercial function.

What the Head of Commercial will lead

The role covers several areas of commercial growth, from strategy and enterprise acquisition to partnerships, customer expansion and team performance.

Commercial strategy and growth

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop and execute the company’s commercial strategy in line with its wider business objectives.
  • Set commercial priorities, growth targets and market-expansion plans.
  • Identify new customer segments, industries, markets and revenue opportunities.
  • Develop scalable commercial models that can support sustainable growth.
  • Lead annual commercial planning, target setting, forecasting and budgeting.
  • Monitor market developments, customer needs, industry trends and competitor activity.
  • Provide commercial analysis and recommendations to the CEO and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the company’s market position and competitive advantage.

Enterprise business development

A major part of the position will involve identifying and converting high-value business opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

  • Building and managing a strong pipeline of enterprise and institutional prospects.
  • Developing relationships with senior decision-makers and C-suite executives.
  • Leading consultative sales engagements based on customer requirements.
  • Driving customer acquisition across selected markets and industries.
  • Managing complex commercial negotiations through agreement and implementation.
  • Developing market-entry, penetration and expansion strategies.
  • Representing the company at relevant business and industry engagements.

Strategic partnerships

The Head of Commercial will also be responsible for identifying partnerships that can contribute to customer acquisition, product adoption and revenue growth.

This includes:

  • Identifying potential strategic partners across financial services, technology and the wider business ecosystem.
  • Evaluating partnerships based on strategic fit, commercial viability and long-term value.
  • Building and maintaining senior relationships with strategic partners.
  • Leading commercial negotiations and partnership agreements.
  • Developing partnership models that support business expansion.
  • Maintaining executive-level relationships throughout the partnership lifecycle.

Revenue and commercial performance

The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for commercial performance and revenue growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Taking ownership of agreed commercial revenue targets.
  • Preparing reliable revenue forecasts and commercial projections.
  • Monitoring pipeline development, conversion rates, customer acquisition and revenue performance.
  • Identifying commercial gaps and putting corrective measures in place.
  • Driving customer acquisition, retention and account expansion.
  • Identifying cross-selling and upselling opportunities.
  • Increasing the value generated from existing customer relationships.
  • Tracking key commercial performance indicators and reporting results to the CEO.
  • Working with Finance and other departments on pricing, revenue optimisation and commercial planning.
  • Improving commercial processes and performance across the function.

Customer and strategic account management

The role also requires senior-level involvement in important customer relationships.

The Head of Commercial will:

  • Develop strategies for customer retention and long-term account value.
  • Maintain executive relationships with major customers and strategic accounts.
  • Identify opportunities to expand existing business relationships.
  • Support account management and commercial renewal activities.
  • Work with Customer Success, Product and Operations teams to address customer requirements.
  • Use customer feedback and market intelligence to identify opportunities for product and service improvements.

Leading the commercial team

This is both a commercial and people-leadership role.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing commercial team.
  • Establish clear targets, KPIs and performance expectations.
  • Develop effective sales and business-development processes.
  • Introduce appropriate reporting structures and performance management practices.
  • Coach and mentor commercial managers and other team members.
  • Encourage accountability, collaboration and ownership.
  • Identify capability gaps and support training and professional development.
  • Help recruit, retain and develop strong commercial talent.

Working across the business

Commercial growth will require close collaboration with other functions. The Head of Commercial will work with Product, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Technology and Customer Success teams to:

  • Contribute to go-to-market plans for new products and commercial initiatives.
  • Provide market and customer insights to support product positioning.
  • Support pricing and value-proposition development.
  • Align commercial priorities with product and organisational strategy.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives designed to improve acquisition, revenue and market growth.

What experience is required?

The vacancy is aimed at an experienced commercial leader. Candidates should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Marketing or a related field.
  • An MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in commercial, sales, business development, strategic partnerships, revenue management or related functions.
  • Previous experience in a senior commercial leadership position.
  • Experience in FinTech, financial services, technology, SaaS or another high-growth business environment is strongly preferred.
  • A proven record of achieving revenue targets and delivering measurable commercial growth.
  • Strong B2B and enterprise business-development experience.
  • Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements and strategic partnerships.
  • A demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing commercial teams.

Technology and business tools

The role requires familiarity with modern sales and business-development tools, including:

  • CRM platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce or equivalent systems.
  • Sales and business-development automation platforms.
  • LinkedIn Sales Navigator.
  • Business intelligence and reporting tools.
  • Microsoft Office.
  • Google Workspace.
